Silicones,
known to chemists as polyorganosiloxanes, have a
unique chemical structure of alternating silicon
and oxygen atoms. This uniqueness has led people
to formulate high performance speciality chemicals
which perform outstanding functions.
Aerol formulates various products based on these
silicones that help industries to produce high quality
products.
Aerols expertise is in the manufacture of
Silicone Sprays, Silicone Defoamers/ Antifoams,
Silicone Emulsions and Silicone Solutions. Aerol
also produces a range of ‘Silicone-Free’
products that overcome certain limitations of Silicones
in specific applications.

Silicone & Silicone Free Sprays
Silicone Sprays are versatile, multi-use aerosol
products used for various industrial applications
such as releasing, lubricating, protection and polishing.
Silicone Sprays are usually unparalleled in performance
but have certain limitations. These limitations
of Silicone Sprays are over come by Silicone Free
Sprays that are proprietary products designed to
eliminate the ill effects of Silicones.
Here is a brief description of Silicone
& Silicone Free Sprays
Afra® Heavy Duty Silicone Sprays
Afra® Heavy
Duty Silicone Sprays are a pressurized solution
of Silicone Fluids and solvents. On spraying, the
propellant and solvent evaporate, leaving behind
a thin film of Silicone Fluid. These films of Silicone
Fluids have several outstanding features and are
listed below
- Wide serviceable temperature range from
minus 40°C to 200°C (up to 300°C in
some special grades), without decomposition or carbonization.
- Non-gumming, non-oxidizing, non-staining, non-toxic
and chemically inert in nature.
- High Refractive index providing optical clarity
and a high shine onto surfaces to which applied.
- Low Surface tension facilitates deep penetration
and high surface wetting ability.
- Excellent lubrication for petroleum sensitive plastics
& rubber, metals and synthetic materials.
- Highly water repellant, corrosion resistant and
imparts protection against ill effects of moisture,
weather and humidity.
Applications
- As a Mould Lubricant / Release Agent in the injection
molding of Plastics and Rubber. They provide defect
free and faithful reproductions from complicated
moulds.
- As an Anti-spatter agent in welding operations.
- As a release agent in metallurgical molding/ casting,
candle manufacturing and resin casting.
- As a Non-Stick agent on cutting blades of paper,
plastic, adhesive tapes etc., gluing equipment in
printing presses (press room and bindery) &
plastic heat sealing equipment.
- As a non-toxic, non-staining, non-carbonizing, high
and low temperature resistant lubricant for delicate
mechanisms and components where friction takes place
between non-metal and non-metal surface, non-metal
to metal surface or metal to metal surface such
as curtain runners, blinds, sliding doors &
windows, tread mill belts, zippers of luggage, diving
suits and tents, printer head guides, sewing needles-thread-work
tables in high speed garment and leather production.
In automobiles these grades may be used to maintain
locks, hinges, telescopic antenna, seat rails, seat
belt recoilers, wiper blades, battery terminals
etc. They are also used to lubricate conveyors in
food and pharmaceutical industries due to their
non-toxicity.
- As a moisture / rust resistant protective coating
on chrome plated automobile parts, delicate instruments,
components & electrical assemblies and switch
gear.
- As a polishing and finishing agent for plastic,
rubber, polished/ painted wooden and steel surfaces
such as auto tyres, rubber trims, dashboards, bumpers,
TV & audio cabinets, plastic, wooden and steel
furniture etc.
Note: Surfaces treated with Silicone
spray will be resistant to the adhesion of paint,
glue, ink and other coating materials. In such cases
Afra® Heavy Duty Silicone Free Spray could be
a useful option. Grades containing high solvent
contents may adversely affect certain plastic and
rubber surfaces, if prolonged contact is maintained.
Such applications should be tested for compatibility.
